Poetry & Writing Can Be Healing

Excerpt from Healing Light by Alexandra Villard de Borchgrave

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of “9/11”, one the most horrific days in American history.  So many lives changed that day.  I feel sick just thinking about it.  Because the Light of Healing Hope Foundation was created as a result of the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001, I feel it is apropos to write about this incredible organization today of all days.

You see, on night of September 11, 2001, Alexandra Villard de Borchgrave prayed for a way to bring comfort to those who were suffering.  That prayer led her to write 3 incredibly beautiful books of poetry, Healing Light, Heavenly Order and Beloved Spirit and to the founding of the Light of Healing Hope Foundation.

Alexandra Villard de Borchgrave has become a dear friend of mine.  Her foundation, the Light of Healing Hope holds a very special place in my heart.  It is dedicated to bringing hope, healing & comfort through poetry to anyone facing difficult times.  Hundreds of books have been donated to the cancer centers at Johns Hopkins, NIH and Sibley Memorial Hospital for their patients & families.  (My very favorite poem is “Forever Entwined” from Healing Light… Alan would have LOVED this one.)

Since decades of research have shown an important connection between writing and healing, the Light of Healing Hope Foundation also works with poetry therapists to conduct poetry workshops for cancer patients.  These sessions are designed to give patients a space where they can express themselves, opening pathways to comfort and healing in the mind and in the heart.

The Light of Healing Hope Foundation hopes to be able to gift these books as well as conduct poetry workshops to many more hospitals and cancer centers across the country.  The books are also available for purchase from Amazon. (BTW, 100% of Mrs. de Borchgrave’s titles, rights & interests from all 3 books are given directly to the Foundation so that they can continue to bringing hope and comfort to those in need.)  Amazing, right?!
